Meaning in graphics work
A webhook is a message delivered to a configured endpoint when a source system reports an event. It supports integration but must be treated as an incoming claim needing validation.
It differs from polling a status page or proof that the physical event happened exactly as described. Delivery can be repeated, delayed or fail.
Example and practical consequence
A fulfilment provider might report dispatch through a callback. The engine needs to authenticate the sender, match the event to the accepted project and reconcile duplicate or uncertain effects.
Verify the actual provider contract, signature or trust mechanism and relevant state transition. Use stable event identities and idempotent handling, keeping exceptions attributable. A demonstration callback or unauthenticated payload cannot confirm delivery, acceptance or payment simply because it contains a plausible project ID or a field labelled completed.
Take it to the next job
- Validate sender and reconcile the event against the actual accepted record.
