Meaning in graphics work
A task owner is the person or role accountable for progressing a particular task and maintaining its relevant status. Ownership makes the next action attributable.
It differs from everybody invited to a project and from the person who happens to receive a notification. A task can have collaborators without losing its accountable owner.
Example and practical consequence
In a branch rollout, a local site contact might own measurement confirmation while a central producer owns quantity review. Sending both people an email does not assign responsibility automatically.
Record the owner, expected result and escalation route, and confirm handover when responsibility changes. Avoid orphaned tasks or assuming that a departed agency still acts for its former client. Explicit ownership supports useful reminders and exception routing while preserving the organisation's records and the authority needed for consequential decisions.
Take it to the next job
- Assign an accountable owner rather than relying on notification recipients.
