Understand the construction
Synthetic-paper alternatives is a comparison category for media offered as substitutes for conventional paper in particular jobs. It does not identify one polymer, mineral composition, coating system or printing behaviour.
For a frequently handled insert, compare alternatives against the actual failure being addressed, such as damp handling, edge damage or a need to clean the displayed item. A different material is useful only if it addresses the job's requirements.
Specify the actual job
Record each candidate's composition, print surface, thickness, stiffness and compatible ink workflow. Compare finished dimensions and attachment or insertion arrangements, and ask whether the proposed grade needs different cutting or finishing preparation from the paper it would replace.
Limits and evidence
Do not transfer one synthetic product's performance to every product carrying the category name. A substitute can introduce different surface, static, folding, adhesion or separation questions. Non-paper does not establish superior overall environmental performance or an accepted recycling route.
Obtain actual candidate data and samples printed through the proposed workflow. Keep evidence for the intended application, including any coating and added laminate, and ask a receiving service about the finished construction before describing an end-of-use route as available.
Next useful action
Build a comparison board with the existing paper and named alternatives. State the requirement each option addresses and leave unsupported performance or recovery fields marked unknown for the buyer's later decision.
