Meaning in graphics work
A source licence is the permission framework governing use of material obtained from a source. Its terms determine allowed storage, reproduction, derivation or distribution for the particular content.
It differs from public readability, an available feed or the existence of an API. An accessible page can still restrict reuse of its text, photographs or database records.
Example and practical consequence
A news card may link to a publisher and provide an original short explanation without copying its entire article. A product document's permitted technical reference use may differ from republication of its images.
Read the applicable terms, identify the material covered and record the permission version. Keep a source's machine-access capability separate from publication rights. Do not treat attribution as a substitute for permission or assume that one licence covers every document, endpoint and derivative associated with the same organisation.
