Meaning in graphics work
Scoring is a controlled surface or partial-depth treatment intended to help material bend or follow a planned line. Its exact meaning depends on the fabrication process.
It is not automatically the same as creasing, which forms a fold channel through a different treatment. Neither should be assumed suitable for every board or laminated construction.
Example and practical consequence
A folded graphic component may need one face treated along its fold line while preserving the intended structural connection. An incorrect depth can weaken the piece or expose a damaged printed edge.
Ask the fabricator which method, face and sequence the selected material needs. Identify fold direction and any graphic exclusion zones, and check a prototype for cracking, alignment and assembly. Keep the terminology precise so an instruction to fold does not leave a consequential manufacturing decision unresolved.
