Meaning in graphics work
Retrieval is finding and supplying relevant material to a task or information workflow. In an AI-assisted system it can provide context from permitted documents or records.
It differs from unrestricted access or an assurance that the most relevant source was found. Search scope, indexing, freshness and permissions shape the returned material.
Example and practical consequence
A project assistant preparing a handover might retrieve the approved specification and relevant installation notes, while another client's private quotation must stay outside its accessible search space.
Enforce tenant and record grants in the retrieval path, including caches and indexes, and preserve source references. Check whether missing or stale results affect the proposed answer. The system should distinguish a retrieved document from validated evidence and avoid using similarity alone to conclude that one product's technical or environmental statement applies to another assembly.
