Print process

A print process is the method and workflow used to transfer or form an image on the intended substrate.

Meaning in graphics work

A print process is the method and workflow used to transfer or form an image on the intended substrate. Its preparation and finishing requirements shape the job.

A process label differs from a particular machine configuration, ink set and validated production recipe. The same category can contain materially different practical capabilities.

Example and practical consequence

A campaign combining fabric, rigid panels and labels may use several processes. The artwork handover needs each provider's requirements rather than a single export assumption for every component.

Record the actual process selected for each item and test compatibility where uncertainty remains. Compare sample output against the required viewing, colour and finishing conditions. A process being available in a supplier directory indicates a capability claim, not confirmed capacity, acceptance or suitability for the current order.
