Meaning in graphics work
Preflight is checking a file against defined preparation requirements before its intended production use. It can inspect specified technical properties and report problems or unchecked conditions.
It is not a universal guarantee that artwork is print-ready, visually correct or suitable for installation. A passing check depends on the actual profile and capabilities used.
Example and practical consequence
An artwork checker might calculate raster density and identify missing resources but lack the specialist engine needed to analyse every PDF or colour interaction. Those unchecked properties should remain explicit.
List the checks performed, their settings and their relationship to the provider's requirements. Keep technical review separate from content approval and physical fit assessment. A report must identify its file version; an old result or a disconnected professional-preflight adapter cannot release a changed artwork file.
Take it to the next job
- Inspect the check profile and the properties the report does not cover.
