The skill and its purpose
A supplier’s allocated brief describes the buyer’s present requirement and the scope of the information deliberately shared. It can include confirmed geometry, variants, quantities, delivery needs and open questions. Reading the exact version prevents a response to an obsolete message or an assumed product. Receiving a brief is not acceptance of an order, permission to disclose another supplier’s response or authority over every customer record.
Work through the decision
Identify the buyer’s reference, brief version, applicable sites and requested decision. Separate confirmed values from proposals and missing information. Check which documents and artwork references belong to the enquiry. Record questions precisely and respond through the actual authorised relationship. In the standalone release, a device draft and exported brief support preparation; a connected supplier workspace and private grants remain engine functions.
Practical exercise — fictional
A fictional supplier receives a three-site brief, but one variant has no confirmed width and a previous email contains a different quantity. Prepare a response checklist linked to the current brief version. Ask the buyer to resolve the width and quantity conflict. Explain why accepting the older email’s numbers silently would create an ambiguous quotation.
