The skill and its purpose
Permission determines what a person may read, change, approve or export in an actual organisation or project. A public profile, logged-in identity or preferred brand does not automatically supply those rights. Different record types and fields can need different scopes. Understanding that distinction helps collaborators request useful access without assuming that familiarity with a project authorises every action.
Work through the decision
List the collaborator’s actual tasks, then identify the records and actions they require. Separate viewing from editing, decision authority and financial export. Ask the authorised organisation or record owner to grant the appropriate minimum scope. Keep the purpose and end of the role visible. Where the shared engine is disconnected, use deliberately scoped independent files; a browser role label cannot enforce server permissions.
Practical exercise — fictional
A fictional installer needs site instructions and approved file references but does not need internal budgets or another client’s enquiries. Create a permission request showing the necessary records and actions. Explain why changing the preferred entrance from Graphic Accord to Leaf Accord cannot create additional private access or an approval role.
Take it to the next job
- Describe required records and actions.
- Separate read, edit, approval and export authority.
- Request minimum useful explicit access.
- Review grants when the role ends.
Try the decision
