Meaning in graphics work
Lamination joins an additional layer to a substrate or printed graphic. In graphics work it often refers to a protective face film or a mounted multilayer construction.
It differs from a liquid coating, and the laminate's properties cannot be assumed from the printed face alone. Adhesive and interface compatibility are part of the assembly.
Example and practical consequence
A floor campaign graphic may combine printed film and a specified overlaminate. The complete system, surface preparation and expected use matter more than either layer's marketing description in isolation.
Record the exact laminate, adhesive relationship and finishing sequence. Confirm optical appearance, edge behaviour, cleaning and required application evidence with the provider. Lamination can change thickness, flexibility and separation possibilities, so do not copy the base material's claims into the finished product without checking the assembled construction.
