Meaning in graphics work
Ink coverage describes how much inked image area or ink contribution is present under a defined calculation. Its meaning depends on whether the discussion concerns design, separations or production.
A percentage of printed area is not automatically a total ink limit or a measure of consumed ink. Device and workflow settings determine the relevant interpretation.
Example and practical consequence
A designer discussing a heavy dark background with a printer needs to know whether the concern is combined process values, drying, surface behaviour or production consumption. Those are related but distinct questions.
Ask what is being measured and which actual job condition the limit addresses. Use the receiving workflow's preparation requirements and inspect relevant areas of the file. Avoid treating a generic coverage value as a prediction of ink cost, drying time or environmental impact without the required process data.

- State whether coverage refers to area, component values or measured consumption.
