Meaning in graphics work
Folding changes a flat component into a defined arrangement of faces and edges. In production it requires a direction, sequence and relationship to the material's prepared lines.
It differs from scoring or creasing, which prepare the fold, and from assembly, which may join several folded or separate parts into a complete object.
Example and practical consequence
A promotional display can place its message on different faces once folded. Artwork that appears correctly positioned on a flat sheet may end up hidden inside the finished construction.
Mark face orientation, fold order and the intended assembled appearance in the handover. Check a physical or agreed dimensional prototype where fitting matters, and identify who performs the final operation. An instruction to fold without those details can leave production, packing and installation teams interpreting the same component differently.
