Edge trim

Edge trim is a separate treatment or component applied around an edge to provide a defined finish or interface.

Meaning in graphics work

Edge trim is a separate treatment or component applied around an edge to provide a defined finish or interface. It becomes part of the finished graphic construction.

It differs from the trim size, which describes the intended cut boundary. A decorative edge treatment is also not automatically a protective or structural solution.

Example and practical consequence

A rigid information panel may use a perimeter trim that changes the visible border, overall dimensions and fixing access. The printed design needs to allow for the area it covers.

Specify the actual profile, joining method, corners and relationship to mounting hardware. Check the finished sample for fit, sharp edges and service access through the responsible provider. Do not assume that a neat edge establishes water sealing, safety or recyclability; those properties need evidence for the relevant assembled construction.
