Meaning in graphics work
Dye sublimation is a printing approach that uses heat to transfer suitable dye into a compatible receiving material. Transfer-paper and direct-print workflows have different preparation steps.
It is not a universal method for every textile, and it differs from simply laying an opaque ink film onto a surface. The exact medium and processing conditions matter.
Example and practical consequence
A fabric graphic may be printed through a transfer-paper route before it is cut and finished. The supplier must account for the actual textile response and final equipment dimensions.
Confirm the intended fabric, ink workflow, heat processing and finishing sequence with the provider. Ask for a finished sample where colour, dimensional behaviour or fitting matters. Do not assume that an unfinished print measurement, a broad fibre name or another supplier's process establishes the finished graphic's suitability.
