Meaning in graphics work
A dependency is a relationship in which one task or decision needs another condition before it can proceed meaningfully. It explains part of the workflow's sequence.
It differs from an arbitrary ordering preference. Some work can proceed in parallel, while an approval or physical receipt may create a real gate.
Example and practical consequence
A provider cannot sensibly produce the final graphic before the necessary artwork version and specification are released. A designer may still prepare a provisional layout while measurements remain clearly unresolved.
Record the needed condition, accountable actor and effect of change. Avoid treating every predecessor date as proof of completion, and distinguish illustrative schedules from confirmed provider lead times. When a dependency changes, identify the affected work so collaborators can respond deliberately rather than allowing a timetable to imply that missing evidence has been supplied.
