Meaning in graphics work
Creasing prepares a planned fold by forming a controlled deformation or channel in suitable material. It helps guide folding through an agreed production method.
It differs from cutting through the sheet or simply drawing a fold line in artwork. Material thickness, grain and construction affect which crease arrangement is appropriate.
Example and practical consequence
A paperboard countertop unit may use a series of creases to produce its final shape. The printed image needs to account for those fold positions and the surfaces exposed after assembly.
Confirm the provider's crease method, fold direction and prototype with the actual board grade. Record the production geometry separately from the visual artwork and recheck both when the construction changes. A flat file proof cannot establish whether a folded part fits, resists damage or supports the intended display contents.

- Review the crease geometry on a prototype using the selected board.
