Meaning in graphics work
A countertop unit is a display intended to sit on an existing counter, desk or similar supporting surface. It may present information, samples or products.
It differs from a self-supporting floor display. Its usability depends on the host surface, available space and intended interaction rather than just its own dimensions.
Example and practical consequence
A promotional unit designed for one shop counter might obstruct a payment terminal or lose its message behind merchandise at another branch. A rollout needs location information before treating every unit as identical.
Record the usable counter area, orientation, contents and fixing restrictions. Review a prototype with the actual viewing position and expected handling. The artwork and structure should support the task without assuming a uniform counter height or audience reach, and a successful sample does not confirm every receiving branch has suitable space.
