Template specification

Keep a production template's source, revision, dimensions and application together so a plausible-looking outline is not mistaken for confirmed geometry.

What this worksheet records

A template specification should identify the exact equipment or application it serves. Record its provider, revision, intended geometry and measurement units before using it as an artwork starting point. Enter bleed, inset and attachment details only from the applicable instructions. Mark which regions can be changed and which must stay controlled. A template that resembles another frame's outline is not evidence that it fits that model or revision.

Complete and review it

Keep the current source and checked date so future reorders can distinguish the version originally used from the version now offered. If a template is retired, retain it for historical records while flagging that it needs review before new work. Ask the responsible provider to resolve unclear fixing geometry or scale instructions. When permitted local edits are made, preserve the locked elements and create a new artwork version requiring the relevant review. The template's presence does not itself approve the resulting graphic.

Field definitions

  • template_id: A stable identifier for this template, used to connect related rows without merging unrelated records.
  • revision: The exact revision used for this row; retain earlier versions and revisit affected decisions after a change.
  • provider: The actual party for provider, with its responsibility or rights source identified; do not substitute the platform brand.
  • applicable_equipment_revision: The exact applicable equipment revision used for this row; retain earlier versions and revisit affected decisions after a change.
  • final_width_mm: The final width in millimetres at the stated measurement points; leave unmeasured geometry unknown.
  • final_height_mm: The final height in millimetres at the stated measurement points; leave unmeasured geometry unknown.
  • scale_denominator: The declared working scale denominator; keep final physical dimensions separately.
  • bleed_mm: The selected provider’s confirmed outer allowance per edge in millimetres for this job.
  • safe_inset_mm: The selected provider’s confirmed inward content allowance per edge in millimetres for this job.
  • attachment_geometry: The actual attachment geometry relevant to this row’s declared purpose. Record the source or unresolved question where it is not confirmed.
  • editable_region: The specific region the actual template permits the editor to change.
  • locked_region: An artwork region outside local edit authority unless an explicit change is granted.
  • source_url: The actual complete official or canonical URL for source url; a link does not grant document access or reproduction rights.
  • checked_date: The actual checked date, with date format or period meaning explicit; distinguish requested, planned, confirmed and observed values.
  • retired_state: Whether the source template is retired for new work, while preserving applicable history.
  • unresolved_constraint: The specific unanswered unresolved constraint that needs an owned response before the relevant next gate can close.

Prepare a deliberate export

Templates can contain protected branding or manufacturer instructions. Confirm permission before distributing the source file. A completed specification exports your recorded constraints; it does not confer template rights, validate fit or approve local artwork edits.

Take it to the next job

  • Identify exact applicability and revision before designing.
  • Keep editable and locked regions explicit.
  • Retain retired templates as history while checking new-work suitability.
