Meaning in graphics work
A change request is an explicit proposal to alter a defined baseline or working requirement. It records what changes, why and which decisions may need to be revisited.
It differs from silently replacing accepted information. A request is not automatically an approved variation or a new external commitment until the responsible parties agree it.
Example and practical consequence
A buyer increasing a rollout quantity after supplier acceptance may affect material supply, cost and delivery. The artwork file may be unchanged, while the manufacturing commitment still needs review.
Describe the affected specification, version and responsibilities, and preserve the earlier agreement. Identify which approvals remain valid and which need renewal rather than invalidating everything indiscriminately. A useful change process allows independent preparation to continue while preventing a convenient edit from becoming an unacknowledged promise on somebody else's behalf.
