Meaning in graphics work
Backup restoration is the process of recovering useful records and required objects from a preserved copy. It tests whether a backup can support the intended recovery, not merely whether files exist.
It differs from downloading an archive or checking a single hash. Relationships, object payloads, permissions and usable application state can be necessary alongside metadata.
Example and practical consequence
Restoring a campaign database without its private artwork objects can leave history readable but handover unusable. A static site release may instead need a verified file manifest and a working external serving configuration.
Define the recovery scope, verify integrity and test the resulting service or permitted record set. Keep secrets protected and check isolation after restoration. A backup's presence is not proof that an organisation can reconstruct its useful work, and a locally restored preview does not establish that external production dependencies continue operating during an outage.
