Meaning in graphics work
Backlog is work that remains to be dealt with in a defined queue or operational process. Its significance depends on the scope and order of that work.
It differs from every future idea or an organisation's total activity. A production backlog and an editorial improvement backlog have different scheduling consequences.
Example and practical consequence
A campaign team may have several unresolved artwork changes awaiting review. Counting them without distinguishing owner, urgency or production dependency does not reveal which issue threatens the planned release.
Define the queue, prioritisation basis and next accountable actions. Separate blocked items from runnable work and avoid assuming that a large count means poor performance. Useful backlog information explains what is waiting and why, allowing a responsible person to address the relevant constraint rather than hiding it behind an aggregate activity metric.
