Meaning in graphics work
An assembly is a complete arrangement of joined components performing a defined purpose. In graphics work it includes the layers, hardware and connections needed for the finished item.
It differs from a single substrate or printed panel. Properties attributed to one component may not apply to the joined object, especially after adhesives, coatings or fixings are added.
Example and practical consequence
A campaign display can combine a frame, printed textile, feet, lighting and packaging. Describing it only as polyester overlooks the equipment and interfaces that determine its actual service and return requirements.
Record a bill of materials and component relationships, with ownership and responsibility where needed. Assess fitting, maintenance and evidence at the relevant assembly level. This makes replacements and later reuse more precise and prevents material-level statements from becoming unsupported claims about the complete display or its final destination.

- Identify components, interfaces and the evidence scope of the whole assembly.
