Meaning in graphics work
Artwork is the organised visual content supplied for a graphic: text, images, shapes, layout and the files that describe their intended output.
It is different from the finished printed object and from a technical specification. Attractive artwork can still have an incorrect size or missing production information.
Example and practical consequence
For a retail panel, the artwork may contain an approved headline and photograph while the separate specification identifies panel dimensions, substrate and fixing requirements.
Name the actual file revision, its intended use and the responsible designer. Keep content approval separate from technical checks so an accepted message cannot accidentally release an unsuitable production file.
Take it to the next job
- Identify the precise file revision and the separate production specification.
