Find an opportunity at its official source

Separate a live invitation, a future pipeline notice and a completed award before investing bid time.

Identify the notice stage

Record the official notice reference, buyer, stage, publication date and deadline. An award notice describes a completed procurement stage and should not be displayed as a fresh invitation to bid. A planning notice can indicate future activity without establishing an open competition. Check the actual notice and any amendments.

Follow the buyer’s submission route

The public notice page and tender portal can be different destinations. Record the portal identified by the buyer and any registration or document-access requirements. GOV.UK explains the role of Find a Tender as the central digital platform. Read the applicable guidance and buyer instructions rather than assuming every procurement has the same route.

Assess fit before drafting

Map lots, geography, delivery dates and requirements to your organisation’s actual capability. Keep qualifications and declarations linked to the responsible legal entity. Do not copy another supplier’s credential into your bid or infer eligibility from a keyword match. This release provides official search links and preparation templates; it does not claim to have an active opportunity-ingestion or submission connector.

Worked example — fictional

A fictional print supplier sees three records containing the word signage. One is an award notice for work already procured, one announces future planning and one is an open invitation with a deadline and identified buyer portal. The supplier separates those stages instead of treating three keyword matches as three live bidding opportunities. For the open notice, the team checks the exact lot, delivery geography, documents and amendments at the official source. Portal registration is assessed through the buyer’s own instructions. The supplier then maps requirements to its actual delivering entity and capability. If the notice changes, the saved preparation record must reflect the amended version. This exercise illustrates notice handling; it does not seed a live tender, invented buyer demand or a guarantee that the supplier is eligible.

Decision checkpoints

  • Stage: identify whether the record describes planning, competition, amendment, award or another actual notice event.
  • Version: retain official references, publication and amendment dates, the current deadline and relevant documents.
  • Route: follow the buyer’s named portal or submission instructions rather than assuming the notice page receives bids.
  • Fit: review lots and mandatory requirements against the bidding entity’s actual evidence and delivery capability.

Common pitfalls

  • A familiar procurement keyword can occur in an expired notice or a completed award record.
  • A notice feed fetch date is not the notice’s publication date and cannot make an old opportunity current.
  • A source link does not establish a functioning submission API or authorise the platform to sign declarations.

Use it on your next job

Use the official search links and open the complete notice through permitted access. Record its stage, reference, documents and portal route in your preparation matrix. Check amendments and the deadline before investing further bid work. Assign evidence gaps to responsible people and keep submission and legal declarations as deliberate actions by the authorised bidder.
